Vizio JV50P 50″ Plasma with Surround Sound

Vizio JV50PTo those of you who have to have a big name brand panel, I say “sucker”. Actually there is some benefit to buying an HDTV from manufacturers such as Sony, Sharp or Phillips but don’t totally write off brands such as Vizio or Insignia. Some of the lesser known brands of HDTVs are made with parts from Phillips, Samsung or Toshiba and sold at a lesser cost to you. The advantage that some of the larger brands have is usually in their warranty. Some lesser brands will not cover certain defects and or malfunctions until they get to a certain point (ie. They will cover dead pixels but not until there are 10 dead pixels on your panel).

I did my research, looked at cost, and decided to buy a Vizio Jv50p 50″ Plasma (Pardon me while I mop up the drool off my desk). I love this TV. First of all its a 50″ Plasma with a built in surround sound system that uses 5.8 GHz to get the Sub-woofer and rear channel audio to the back of your room. Yes it is a wireless system(almost). The tv has a transmitter that sends the audio to the sub-woofer which you can place say behind your couch. The rear channel speakers then plug into the sub-woofer. I haven’t tried it yet but if anyone has, let me know how it works. This is a great feature if you don’t use an external AV tuner/amp to decode digital surround. The panel displays a great picture while watching HD channels and the analog isn’t to bad either as long as your sitting far enough from the set. Check this one out if your in the market for an HDTV.

50″ Diagonal

1366×768 Native resolution

15,000:1 Contrast Ratio

Built-in NTSC/ATSC tuner

The tv transmits the surround audio to the subwoofer that should be placed next to or behind the couch. The right and left rear speakers have wires that plug into the sub. Hope that answers your question
