Nintendo D S touchscreen untouchable?

nintendo_ds.jpgI was recently playing Elite Beat Agents on my Nintendo D S and I couldn’t seem to hit the circles for the notes and was losing quite badly. After getting a little to frustrated and putting my stylus through my glass table (oops) I realized that the screen seemed to be off from where the stylus was touching it. The Nintendo D S needed to be recalibrated. So after picking up the glass and sewing my cat back together, I found the way to fix the problem.

How to recalibrate your Nintendo D S touchscreen…

  1. Remove any games from the D S
  2. Turn the system on
  3. when the “Touch the Touch Screen to continue” message appears, press the A button
  4. Once the Main Menu appears, place the cursor over the “Settings Menu Panel” at the bottom of the screen by using the control pad, and press the A Button.
  5. Using the control pad, place the cursor over the orangish icon that looks like crosshairs (it’s the right-most icon), and press the A Button.
  6. Now using the stylus, tap on the red square each time it appears on the screen.
    • Touch the red square precisely at each of the three positions or the test will restart.
    • Look at where the screen touches the plastic part of the housing and make sure there aren’t any crumbs/particles that are wedged in there. If you see foreign material, you will need to clean your D S which can be found here.
  7. When complete, four squares will appear for you to “test” on. Once you are sure it is working, press the confirm button in the lower right corner.
  8. Once the confirmation button disappears, tap “quit” and then “yes” to exit. This will shut down the unit and save your settings.

If you are still having problems after calibrating and cleaning the D S, you probably need to send the unit in for repairs. Click here for repairs.
