This article was very helpful to me. I am in my 1st semister at college and have to find and write the Pro's and Con's of Windows, Apple(OSX) and Linux. After reading this, I feel I understand more of the 3 OS and at the end off the day, if we know more then that is normally a good thing. I have a HP laptop with Windows 7 but wanted a Mac, the upfront cost was the factor for my parents that helped me get it but I knew the advantages of an Mac over Windows. I still stand strong and will get a Mac but once I get deeper in my schooling and project become more demanding. Thanks for posting your thoughts and ideas!

I am using the Berry which I believe is based on Knoppix, I love the visuals lots to do on it and with it. Easy to navigate through and I have to admit, it was totally free of charge. I am cheap, but I like Linux because they are safe, I have never had a Linux freeze up on me.

Recent experience of mine: be careful moving to Mac OS X if you are a heavy MS Outlook user. I have Outlook 2007 and didn't know that there was no Outlook in Mac Office 2008 (they say they'll have it in Office 2010 for Mac.) So I use my old laptop for email AND the MacBook for other stuff.

Good comparisons. Each indeed has their pros and cons. I like OSX best when I'm doing something creatively productive though there are things better done in Windows (games) and Linux (anything here).

All throughout the article I could feel how biased you are. Linux is clearly your choice for everything and always has been, comes through crystal clear in this article.

So why not just write an article about Linux? You might get more respect for your article.

A year old and still a good comparison!

about 2 months ago, a friend of mine had her laptop full of trojans and after a day long cleaning up, one trojan would not come off, because of some limitations in WinXP *home* edition...
I suggested a complete format and reinstall, but then she uttered: "that Linux...thingie... you use... would that be better?"
I answered: "well, that depends... d'you wanna play games? d'you have any hardware less than 6 months old?"
after showing some games available under Linux (superTux, Tuxracer, pingus, sudoku, many others) her reaction was: "what the hell, just install Linux (Ubuntu 8.10), I'll convince my husband later"

It took me about 2 weeks to solve all issues (getting a canon Pixma 210 to work, opening a port on her modem for remote support (ssh), finding a wifi device that would work, getting the fan to start, installing the newest proprietary graphical driver (3d was flickering) and some basic instructions), but now I have a happy user.

Running Windows she would call me once or twice a week for help.

Now on Linux, the only calls in the last month were about a tv cable splitter and a dinner invitation.

Her husband still has some trouble where to click, but likes the idea to be virtually virus proof and loves the new excuse to let his wife take care of all the financial stuff.
